This course is designed to provide an introductory overview of hypercholesterolemia and various management strategies for this condition. Several fundamental concepts will be addressed, including the hereditary principles of hypercholesterolemia and the relationship between low-density lipoprotein, lipoprotein(a), and atherosclerosis. Additionally, this course will discuss options for appropriate management of hypercholesterolemia and treatment targets. The role of lipoprotein apheresis will be reviewed, including the definition, indications, and effects of therapy on clinical outcomes in this patient population.
